2005 collectors convention. Motor looks the same as above?

Fish Sun May 30, 2021 11:32 am

Ok, this is where I'm going to learn something today. Well my knowledge of the V8 engine is very limited, but the air scoop does appear to be backwards and if that large round bump thing in the front center is the distributor, shouldn't that be back by the firewall? I realize that at 1/64 scale detail is limited, but what else is backwards?
Did Mattel get it wrong? Are they all like this? Or was it bad QC on the assembly line? I'm going to go and look at all my cars today.

Edit: I went and checked out all my red lines and the ones that have the same style motor they are opposite of the one pictured above. I don't have any newer releases with that set up to look at. Good eye Blue Baron.

I have the newer casting of the Evil Weevil and the motor is the right way. Not sure how they screwed those other ones up but I also don’t know if it was just a few of them or all of them.

I'm pretty sure it's all of them, and it's not just an error car. (Or you could say they're all error cars.)

Here's an intesesting item. This is an Eldon Match Kit from 1969. They were small plastic model kits that came in replica
matchbooks, and were similar to Mini Lindys. The VW was a knockoff of the redline Custom Volkswagen. The kit included a
roofrack with an accurate copy of a Beach Bomb surfboard!

They used the same looking surf boards in the 1968 Deora too.

I guess it's supposed to be a tribute to the rare no-sunroof version.

It's also not a center seat drag set up inside.
