Where on the Super Beetle do you connect your safety chains?
Do you use the recommended cross cross method as the directions call for?
Thanx!

Safety chains are for the tow bar to the trailer hitch, not the actual car. Yes, you cross the chains when attaching the hooks (open part of the hook facing the load not towing vehicle)

Here is the Empi Instruction Sheet I was referring to.
The second page shows cross crossong the chains.

The chains are obviously to keep you and your load together if the hitch fails, the crossed chains are to keep the tongue of the two bar from hitting the pavement and digging in. If your towbar does not have chains weld them on.

I take a tow strap and wrap it around my tow bar for extra safety. It serves the same purpose. Make sure you run it from your car to the car in tow. Assume the tow bar will come up and wrap it in making that assumption.

Thanx, guys! Going to set it up tomorrow. I have chains for the hitch end to tow vehicle. Just wondering how I was going o do the criss-cross thing.
I’ve towed many miles with the beam type towbar but this is my first foray
into super beetle towing.
