Hello 1995 Subaru 2.2L stalls right after a cold start if the gas pedal is not pushed. After warm up it will stall still but not as quick.
As a test I disconnected the Idle control valve and it makes no difference after a restart after warm up. I have't tried it cold yet.
I'm thinking of taking off the idle control valve to clean and inspect, maybe bench test? |

If you haven't yet, you should consider joining the yahoo subaru vanagon group. It's a horrible format, but there is a TON of easily searchable information on there, and those folks are likely to have already had/cured any problem you encounter.
To the point:
are you showing any codes? start there, even OBDI will tell you quite a bit. it could be a lot of things. I just went through this as well, though my issue ended up being a bad head. connect the two black plugs and read the long/short LED flashes for code numbers. long is ten, short is one, so ____ _____ .... is 24. you probably have a code 24. that's IACV.
I'd take off the IACV either way, they're known to cause problems and that's the best way to tell if it's gummed up. the valve should move freely once the magnetic bit that controls it on top is removed. of course, mark where it is so you don't mess anything up.
If it doesn't move COMPLETELY free of resistance, apply carb cleaner liberally until it does.
if it isn't that, make sure your throttle position sensor is attached and plugged in. codes will be a critical starting point, and if you don't address problem codes first, you'll just be throwing good money and parts after bad. |
