I inherited a ’78 diesel Rabbit (55k miles!) and I have the title but no key. I was told by a VW locksmith there is a keycode inside the door handles, but where? I took it off the car:
How do I take this thing apart without the key? |

I think I found it!
It looks like it says ‘7B6805’. Could that be the key code?
Car pulled out of my grandpa’s machinery shed and washed off:

Can't make out that first digit, but, yes, that's the code.

That's VB6805, and yes Kam is correct. That is your key code.
