  View original topic: Kustom1wherehouse ball joint puma beam adjustment ????

I'm attempting to change out the beam on my 67 with a Kustom1wherehouse puma 50/50 adjustable beam that is also equipped with lowered spindles from CB Performance. It looks to me there is no adjustment left as the allen studs that are screwed into the torsion bars are bottomed out in the slots. The only way it can adjust is upward and it looks like it would take a lot of force to make it lift a little bit? Is something out of wack with this new beam? Just finished building a fresh engine that runs fantastic, don't know why I can't figure this out. Productive insight would really be appreciated, thanks again, Mike

If you wanted to go up more take the shocks off then adjust the beam it should move free then

There should be a small grub screw where your center adjusting studs are now, those studs should then thread into another threaded hole in the lock collar 90* from where it is now.

The center binding grub screw should be facing forward & will be installed so that the short grub screw is tightened into the adjuster collar, then rotated downwards 90* so that the adjuster stud can be installed.

Your adjuster clamping mechanism will be different externally but the collar will be the same.

So, I disconnected the shocks and can still not move anything like its bound in place at the grub screw positions at the very lowest settings! What the hell is wrong with this thing? Pictures included for reference...

As I stated in the post, THE ADJUSTER IS DIFFERENT but the internal collar SHOULD be the same.

With the shocks off, remove the center binding stud, then rotate the arms upwards 90*, this will cause the collars to rotate downwards. IF there is another threaded hole then this is where the binding stud should go. the hidden grub screw goes into the previous hole.

This is what your Avis adjuster should look like when not in the beam...

If you look at the inner collar, you will see that there are two threaded holes, one is for the hidden grub screw & the second is for the clamping stud.

^ Agreed.... even though there are Avis "style" of adjusters on the market .... that use the factory VW center anchor with only ONE threaded hole... by looking at the latest pictures.. TDCTDI.. is spot on.. you got the lever bolt in the hidden grub screw threaded hole....

In this particular set up, there should be a second threaded hole in the centering collar..
If not.. it's wrong..

First and foremost are you trying to raise or lower it?
Did you specify which position bias you wanted the adjusters installed in?

If so this beam is bias UP...


If you didn't assemble it... have you called Kustom1warehouse or the assembler yet ?? 8-[




Or.... do ya happen to have any spare parts from the assembly .. that resemble a large set screw??

Got a hold of Stuart of Kustom1wherehouse and texted him the pictures from my previous posts. He said it all looked correct, I had it all the way dropped and needed to bring the adjusters higher without the spindles in place. After readjusting the grub screws and setting the adjustments higher, I reinstalled the spindles and everything seemed to work just fine. Used one shim on each lower side, car sits exactly where I want it. Happy! Thanks for the input, Mike :D

I see VOLKSWAGNUT that you said some AVIS ADJUSTERS use the single threaded hole on the inside collar. This is the setup that I have on my 74 Beetle. How do I adjust them? Everything that I have tried end with no Suspension Travel

If they aren't installed correctly then you might have to do a "cut-n-turn" to get the adjuster positioned so that range of adjustment is where you need it to be to get the ride height where you want it to be.
