Ok, new Ghia owner here, just picked up a crusty 1960 Ghia. Checking out under the hood, I was happy to see a very nasty but decent condition VW gas cap. Upon pulling it off, it appeared to be stuck and didn't want to come loose. With as little persuasion it popped out with this odd, to me, contraption on the bottom. I've searched every subforum on here and haven't seen another. Any ideas?? Splash guard?

Thanks! Any replacement for the brittle outer ring? Or just remove the piece and go on? |

| Get a sheet of micarta and cut out a new one (use the old one for templet). |
