I want to make the rear skirt and valance to make motor work even easier.

Anyone able to give me the Coles notes for removing these 2 pieces? Am I drilling out spot welds from where?

Read some discussion on choosing the right spot welds.

A Ghia is already pretty flexible structurally, I wouldn't go out of my way to weaken it any more.

Unless you're yanking the engine every or every other weekend, the time spent drilling & hacking the rear apron off is sure to waste more time than what you'd spend working around it.

You just have to look at the panel seams to see where the spot welds will be. each panel has a stiffening fold and flange and the welds are underneath along those flanges. You have to drill out all the welds on the flanges from underneath. But I agree, the back end is going to be pretty floppy without that panel in there solid, If you were racing, ya, make it removable but on a street car it will be way easier to remove the rear engine tin and drop it out.
