You do realize those brakes are pretty useless with the small tires. In any panic situation they will simply skid the skinny tires!

Yup, even stock disc brakes will do that with stock sized tires.
But then, this is a show car that will be barely driven. :wink:

Remember how much 'gas' we gave sharkskinman for his Moon tank & it was actually a better fit than Martin's smaller tank!
I understand he wants to show off his beam, but that 2 gallon tank freaks me out! :wink:

The car is built for the strip and to show, it will have little use on the street. The tank is a four gallon from a '64 dragster.

Drag car sounds/looks better than Show car! We expect to see logo/decals & Time Slips for a Drag car! :twisted:

Just means you have to stop more often for gas. Iíve built a couple of show bikes, but found found they were more fun to ride then show, never regretted having a tiny gas tank.

We decided to sign write the tunnel, we chose the date as the start of the main build, rather than the end.

It was done by a guy who has done it all his life and had pretty much retired. The father of Alan and Gareth persuaded him to do the job... Not a stencil in sight, a lifetime of skill.

Back end nearly finished. I used early beetle short tubes and axles, together with c.n.c bearing caps from ISP west. We also turned down the brake drums on the front nose as is explained in the posts from Alex at ISP.

The setup brings in the 8 spokes because they have considerable front spacing and otherwise would run into the wing.

Is there a reason you didn't paint around the body to pan holes on the perimeter?

The black you see around the pan holes is the rubber pan seal, held in place with red tape.

Earlier photos of the shocks and trailing arms. The arms were sanded and lightly filled, etched, primed, sanded, primed and painted in colour.

Masking them out was a nightmare.

A massive job was cleaning and lightly filling the inside of the sunroof.

The pitting was minor but cleaning inside took hours. I just used a range of small wire brushes on an electric drill. It came up very well in the end.

The shots also show the original EMPI fiberglass seats trial fitted.

I bought an aftermarket oil breather, but the casting was very poor, but it fitted well.

It meant hours of sanding bloody aluminium. It was etched, sanded an finally painted the same colour as my original EMPI fuel filter. A local company do a matching service and single aerosols so the match was perfect.

This shot shows the Nos Hurst Indy shifter for the car.

I built the collection of parts over 25 years. In the early days I went to all the swop meets, some of the best days of my life. More recently I have bought on the Samba for the last few parts. The guys in America have been great and agreed to ship to England. To be honest not a single part has been lost, so....thanks !

Almost all of my collection will go onto the car, I just feel that''s where they should be now.

Thanks, we just worked on the inner wings.

We had to get them cherry red hot and carefully hammered them back.

We then placed the body back on and tried the steering lock. There were then some tight areas but we heated and hammered a second time and all was good. It gives about 10mm clearance all round.

The next hard bit was scimming some special flexible thin filler on the inside and out to give a totally smooth factory look. To get it right I turned the lights out and worked with small high powered l.e.d. torch ....the shadows showed where the filler needed to go.

All of the heater system has been removed from the car.

This included cutting out the heater boxes from under the back seat and welding up the holes. This proved difficult because the metal there was on a bend as was very thin.

We needed to use a copper stake behind the areas to absorb the heat and stop the weld 'blowing through'.

J tubes were ssnded and painted in v.h.t. Matt black.

After spending two days filling and painting the air tank it was over to Oliver Sinclait the detailer. This guy is amazing. I used to think this was a dark art but he has the knowledge and skill to turn excellent paintwork into 'Mile deep'. Then treat it with special coatings so it is protected.

Like I mentioned you can't build a car like this and do everything. I work like helll on stuff, and do the design, but this small group of guys all have years of experience doing their 'one thing'. I'm just lucky we all pull together .
