View original topic: how to change the shifter boot?

How the heck do you change the rubber shifter boot on a Hersh Shifter? I can't seem to pull the rubber over the trigger or else it will tear. The base has 3 bolt/screws and one rivet that can't be screwed off. The trigger doesn't budge or else I would have taken it off to slide the rubber on. Man this car has such insanely inconvenient assembly techniques. I'm going crazy. Thanks for your comments in advance.

soak the rubber in warm to hot water for about fifteen minutes before you install it. This will expand the rubber, but also make it softer. Just gotta have patience or a fat wallet to work own these cars.

thanks for the tip dude. I will try that. BTW, I order an after market leather shifter boot for about 30 bucks from crutchfield. I looks like it's easier to install because it has an openable top that you can tighten and loosen at will. Plus it comes in an assortment of colors. Check it out from crutchfield.com and look in the accessories dept. Later.

You guys might wanna try crutchfield and get the custom shifter boot. I just put it on and it looks a hundred times better than stock while maintaining the classic look too! Best wishes!
