Hi all! Hey, I am in need of some advice. I purchased all new parts to build a new ball joint front beam for a 1969 bug pan. I am finding that it isn’t as easy as I thought. My current issue is mounting the torsion arms into the front beam tubes. The leaves were narrowed by the person that narrowed the beam. Do you have any advice for installing the torsion arms? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your help!

Bevel the end that you are trying to thread through the beam, zip tie the end of the pack so it stays together & slather it down with grease.

Technically, the torsion arms mount to the spring packs via the grub screws that hold them onto the end of the springs. The center of the springs are held in place by the center grub screw. The torsion arms rotate inside the tube ends using the bearings/bushings installed in the beam. Getting one end of the torsion arms mounted to the springs is easy since you do this while it is outside the beam. Slide the spring into the beam using the attached torsion arm as a handle. Getting it thru the center grub screw mount is probably the hardest part. Once thru you just need to attach the other torsion arm. |
