Hi.

E&B tells me it would be nice to start a thread about my SO34 to can maybe give Details to other owners they might Need to know, and to maybe found some missing Parts for it, so here we go:

First to say that this one is a much later Project, because i first want to finish my 57 Single cab and maybe some others...

So the Story startet back in 2010, the oldest Van i had these days was my 76 Westalia, the second car i buy, i was restoring, at all i was very new to the VW world.
Sometime i looked the Internet to a German VW Site and see a old Van with a Splitscreen inserted not far away from me, These days i know nothing about them, only that i dreamed about to own one like this, a realy old one, so i take the Phone and make a call... no Anwer, again, no Answer, and again and again....
So i thinked maybe it is alredy sold or maybe a scam...

In the evening i meet my neighbor for a Beer, i tell him about the Splitscreen and that it is only an half hour away from us, and that the owner don`t give me a Answer.
He looked the advertisement and say he know this Guy, it is a friend from his father and a well known VW Splitcreen Professional!
He take the Phone and ... the Owner Anwered him. My neighbor told him that i want to buy his car, but he said that it is very bad and it would be not easy to repair and he want it in good Hands.
So we arrange a Meeting.

The next day i take a look at the Splitscreen and see that it have a small rear hatch, i knowed from Google these days that only the old Splitscreens had that, so i was sure i must need this.
After a conversation with the Owner and after he looked my work on my 76 he decided to sell it to me and make a resettlement of the Splitcreens here at my town again, later i know i get infected with the love to old Splitscreens with this deal...

My plan is to get it back on the road in the former Beauty.
I alreday try to started paintstripping on it, but i don´t know if i can save much.
The interior need some work here and there, but at all it Looks bader than it is.

So sorry about the long Story, here are some Pictures:

If anyone have questions about it or spare parts, please let me know!

-Christian

Can you show us a pic of the M-code plate? It should be under the front seat here:

Can you show another pic of the green fabric of the back cushion under the tartan here:

I think that beauty would jump to the top spot on my restoration list.

UAU!!

It looks really beautiful, complete and way less rusty than most of the busses on the actual market.

Looking for seeing the result.

Cheers!

Sure looks nice enough to simply clean it up, reseal the windows and drive it in dryer weather for now!

How bad is the frame work?

Agreed, more images, pretty please.

Are you missing any Westie only parts??

It is not easy to make pictures, because it is in storage and full of car parts, but i try it the next days.
It have rust in the lower spots al around.

I think some missing parts are a cabinet for the rear door maybe?
The plate that screwed in the spare tire for the table?
The chair?
And maybe some other parts, i don’t know..
Any leads to that parts would be great!

Here is a picture from the plate under the seat and the birth certificate and the Typenschein.

Those flip seats are like adding a slide-out to you're bus. Sweet bus that would check all the boxes for an extreme camper.

Drive it for now is sadly impossible with the laws here in Austria.
so it needs a full resto.
There is no little Rusthole allowed, everythink must work fine and eyery Year we must drive to a Checking of this, there you got a new Sticker, and if this is a old one you get a Problem with the Police..

i try to make more pictures..

I found a childbed, but the front part is to long? so Baywindow?
how should this looks original? can i make it fit?

Anyone know what this part under the front pan could be?

Definitely a Bay window child's cot. You can cut the poles/canvas down to make it fit.

Any closer pictures of and around it? From a distance it looks like a powered pulley but if it is, why? Homemade power steering haha? Does it have wires?

Do the white parts go thru the nose to the bumper? If so, probably air horns.

Isolated and flipped over it looks like it once had an arm or stiff cable going to the steering lever? If so it might have been a home made dampener. It looks like you could turn the knob and adjust the dampening.

I think i know that part under the front floor when i starting to dismount the car...

I found this old camping light, is it the correct one for my bus?
