A friend is converting to coil-overs in his ball joint front end. It appears that the trailing arms need to be drilled for thru rods, is that correct? |

Just pp the caps out of the ends if they haven't fallen out already

If it is a thing ball joint front end, great.
If it is a bug ball joint, I highly recommend you not run coil overs to the lower control arm. That will put all of the supporting load on the lower ball joint, pulling it apart. Ball joints are great in compression. Tension, not so much. You could modify the upper arm and add shock mounts to it. Unless you do that, avoid the coil overs. |

OP needs to define 'coil-overs'...
True coil-over shocks, or the cheap EMPI 2-3 position adjustable coil spring over a shock.
It's always a friend that does these things -

I’m happy with my front suspension. |

I installed a thru rod in the top beam to soften up the ride,
I did NOT go to coilovers, I stayed with the torsion springs in the lower.
All of the instructional advice that I could find said to drill a 1/2" hole (for 1/2" rod) in the end cap and use a nylon washer between the endcap and locking collar.
I am sure someone will point out what a screwed up stupid mistake I've made because I didn't do it the way they would have done it.
"It works, but is it any good in theory?"
GOOD LUCK
