I'm not certain I saw you at any of these campouts. Where were you set up?

I think this is the 1st one in 2012

Stanagon Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:39 pm

Ok, jr has been at all the Salem gatherings. So original 7 now.

I guess we need a shout out to Mike H as I think he was the one who suggested this place. And thanks to Stan for organizing this and keeping it going, in addition to Transporterfest itself.

BTW Tim, I know you were referring to my secret hovel campsites. One year, I had a nice camping mat / rug; it really tied the place together.

Stan, et all.

sorry to say the Syracuse crew won't be out this year, but will be on our agenda for 2020.

that frees up spots # 32, 33, 34

but I will see if I can get a VWCCNY care package put together for your door prizes.

wish we could make it every year but have to alternate.

we'll have some 'new' rides arriving in 2020 ;-)

keep up the good work and an awesome event.

dan.

<<Rant>>Folks, each year we leave Salem and head down to Brookline together. There is a road-race Every. Single. Year. and each year our caravan manages to avoid it but someone will invariably "know better" and follow their GPS then blame me for getting lost...
So, I present again for your review the very exact instruction which we will follow to get from Salem to Brookline on the morning of the show.
Do with them as you please, or the morning of - simply follow the Blue Bug down to the show with no issue.<</Rant>>

We will be leaving Winter Island Marine Park and Campground at 8:00 am Sunday Morning. Our route intentionally avoids going directly south through Boston as there is a road race which closes several main thoroughfares and makes it impossible to get a procession of buses through. We will be following all traffic laws and will maintain a safe cruising speed. The trip should take about 66 minutes. icons represent stops to allow the caravan to collect after complicated or congested areas.
← Exit Winter Island Marine Park and Campground turn left onto Fort Avenue.
↗ In ½ mile, Fort Avenue curves to the right, follow Fort Avenue and cross over Essex Street.
↖ Fort Avenue becomes Webb Street. Keep to the left lane of Webb Street.
← In ½ mile, turn left at the end of Webb Street onto Bridge Street.
← After ½ mile all of Bridge Street will turn left.
Note: This is a quick light – the caravan will stop to gather again ahead.
↑ Keep to the center lane on Bridge Street, the right lane is an exit lane and the left is a turn lane only.
→ In 1 mile turn right onto Boston Street.
↑ After ½ mile Boston Street will become Main Street.
↑ Continue on Main Street.
↑ After ½ mile Main Street will become Lowell Street
↑ Follow Lowell Street for 1 ½ miles
↖ Bear left onto Forest Street
← At the end of Forest Street, turn left on to Summit Street.
→ Take the first right onto Centennial Drive
↗ Bear right to the entrance for MA-128 towards Boston/Gloucester
↑ Remain on MA-128, which will merge with I-95 for 29 miles.
↗ Take exit 20A to MA-9 East This Is Boylston Street (Sign Marked Brookline/Boston)
↑ Remain on Boylston Street for 5 miles.
→ Turn right onto Lee Street, in 1 mile Lee Street will become Clyde Street.
↑ Continue on Clyde Street for 0.5 mile to Newton Street.
← Turn left onto Newton Street
↗ The road will split, bear to the right.
The entrance to Larz Anderson Auto Museum is on the left.

Stan - Can I grab a camping spot, for Saturday night only? Sadly that's only night I can do - Family obligations. Never been to this event before. Sounds like a great time.

Let me know if you need more info from me.

Hi all campers, I have a fun idea for the Salem Igloo. The entrance corridor to the Igloo is fairly unwelcoming late at night when it it dark. I'm thinking of bringing some of my vintage kerosene hurricane and railroad lanterns to hang along the edges of this area, just to lighting it up a little and be a little more friendly.
This could be an annual side attraction where other campers bringing and displaying their unique antique lanterns. Im thinking of Very Low Candle power type lamps. The white gas coleman lanterns would be too bright and overwhelming. Even cool candle lanterns would work.

Getting the lamps to hang maybe a little tricky, but I have some ideas that might work. Lets say the lanterns should be as old or older than the vehicle your camping with. Nothing new (Leds) ect.

Any thoughts? Randy from Ct

I like the lantern idea, but some of our kids have been known to play in those corridor coves.
