I hit one of those frogs in my Father-in-laws' Golf.
Left a black 'splash' around the driver's front wheel!

The peepers here are pretty quiet this spring due I think to it being exceptionally dry. With a slough out back of the house normally they are almost deafening in the evening this time of year.
Oh-oh.........did somebody drain the swamp?
The lack of rain last summer combined with very little snow this winter has made water levels pretty low all around.

We just got a bit of a dump of snow here this week with more in the forcast so here's to hope-in" !

Come to my area and you can have all the rain you want. Last summer was almost a complete washout for us. August was 3 times the normal amount of rain and so far this year is the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised to see alligators in my backyard soon. I think the rainforest migrated north to Pennsylvania.

Since this is about frogs I have 2 stories about them.
1-a few years ago I looked in my shower in my basement and saw a brown blob. I thought one of the cats threw up but when I looked closer here it was a tree frog. This is in the middle of winter. He must have come in thru one of the drain pipes, so being an animal lover I put him in an aquarium so I could release him in the spring. Made a nice home for him and fed him crickets from the pet shop. Quiet little guy until the house phone rang, then he sang like there was no tomorrow. My kids got such a kick out of that.

2-There was pond next to me and where the stream fed the pond was a willow tree. A big Bullfrog would sit on the roots of that willow and it would allow my brother and I to pet it. We named him Jake. He never jumped away from us. He'd just sit there and wouldn't move. Sadly Jake died when he tried to swallow a catfish.

Reminds me of the time my daughter five years old caught a redbellied snake.
Placed in a tank to view for summer
Gave birth to five live young, no bigger round then sewing thread
Let them go in flower garden as i didnt know what to feed something that small

Thinking more about this I remembered these wood frogs and holding them gently you rub the stick over the back to make the sound. Always in season an in style guaranteed to raise a smile :D

Notice the VW content just to keep things right.

Nah, Off-Topic forum. The pic corresponds to the thread subject. I'd be surprised if the Mods had an issue with that....

The Carpenter Bees migrated long ago and faraway…

The woods behind my house have been singing every night.

My Son had those big ass bees @ his last house, we swated them off the deck w/ Tennis rackets...

And yes, the "peepers" are out, in every pond, swamp ect.

Yeah, same here. My carpenter bees are back. The tennis racket thing is soooo satisfying.

For the last three years, I've been using a certain spray that just basically melts them. I watch for exactly where on the eaves they land and crawl into, and then blast the spray in there. No matter how many bees had been flying around, and sometimes there's lots, after I spray, the ones that don't die just exit, stage left.

For my own safety, I wear a full face motorcycle helmet with the shield down, and a long sleeve shirt. The spray is nasty.

There is a local ordinance against wood frogs on your dashboard in Port Jeff. If you park in a lot and the see it, you will get toad.

Old farmers trick for Bee's/wasp/Hornets,, Brown Paper shopping bag, stuffit full of plastic shopping bags to fill it out, hang it under an eve, over doorway etc. they think it's another's swarms nest, and won't stick around ,,, this works great and no toxic sprays!!!!!!

scottyrocks Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:38 am

I'll have to try that^.

scottyrocks Sun Apr 16, 2023 10:49 am

Okay, then. Medium sized brown paper shopping bag stuffed with an old plastic drop cloth, stapled together at the top to give it better shape (and keep the innards in), and hung as close as possible to where the most activity around the house is. 1:40PM. Let's how long it takes until I don't see any carp-bees, if it does work.
