Dismounted the passenger door lock (marked 211837015B) to mount it in the replacement door. Bus 1951.
Have not mounted it yet on the new door but it seems it will not activate the release mechanism from the inside. I will not be able to release the door lock from inside. From outside with the handle it is ok. Am I missing some part? Did I drop some part when dismounting? I just loosened 6 screws and the lock came out just fine.
Pulling the handle mechanism from inside does not retract the lock, like if I'm missing some part.
With the door handle from the outside it seems to work fine.

What I am doing wrong? What am I missing?
If it is of any help the door handle is marked 201.637.205
Will load more pics if needed

In the Ad section there is one with the same part number. 211 837 015 B
Even though its announced as drivers side and mine is passengers side.
It looks exactly the same as mine. How is the lock released from the bus inside?
It doesn't seem to follow and release the lock as shown in the video above.

Your lock assembly is broken, this is why it's not working from inside.
You can't pull it in and out like you do in the video so easily or have it stay open, this is not normal
More information:
015 is a driver's side lock.
016 is passenger side.
This thread has some information:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=454018
From that thread, a passenger lock

Locked:

You can see how the hook would just move to the right and totally miss the mechanism, preventing the door from opening
Unlocked:

Now the mechanism is in line with where the hook from the door handle will be, so when you pull the handle, the hook will press against the mechanism and open the door. |

Thanks a lot for the info and pics.
Before I buy a new lock assembly from the Ads section I would like to understand what is broken since it was working on the old rusty door. Honestly I can't believe there were loose parts that I lost when I unmounted it from the old door. No violence was involved, it came out just fine. It also doesn't sound like there are loose parts inside the lock assembly.
Is there a pic of the inside or exploded diagram of the lock assembly to understand how it should work? and what is missing
Thanks. |

I haven't seen a diagram of the inside.
I think the spring is broken inside, it should be retracting by itself.
Maybe something else broke too?
Here's a later NOS driver's side assembly I have for my '63 that shows how it retracts by itself:
It's very hard to pull so the video is a little shaky.
It also look like this part is bent up? Maybe if you fix that it will work a little better?

OK thanks for the video and pics.
Regarding the part you point out it looks the same as the one in the ad with the same part number.
It could be something with the spring. However I would think that the same spring would be pressed when opening from outside/inside. When opening with the handle it is like in your video, the spring is strong and requires force.
It would be great to know how the mechanism looks on the inside.

Yes, I think it is the same spring too.
Maybe the problem with using it from the inside is because of the bent part with the red arrow above? |
