This is what my 1967/1968 vw beetle woody wagon looked when i first bought and drove it around. And the other photos are what it currently looks like. I am rebuilding the plywood sides and rear. The solid wood roof doesnt need anywork other than sanding and a good varnish job.
I hope to have it up and fully running by august 10, because i want to drive it down to the salt flats in utah for Bonneville speed week. Or the speedweek finals the month after in September.

I was randomly on my phone, and saw a kijiji advert. I was like, thats an interesting looking ride. So i clicked on it. Had been posted i think less than 24 hours or less than 12 hours by the time i contacted the previous owner. I made the deal to buy it off him for $4250. I did an oil change, basic maintenance. Not even the brakes at the time as they were working.
I drove it on the highway from calgary to banff alberta and then back to calgary.
The woody beetle had been sitting and transfering owners since the original maker of the car with nobody cleaning the car out since hot august nights libby montana 1995. I found the flyer underneath the seat.
Other prior owners had done fuel system, this and that. But mostly all original.
I was the first person to clean the wood shavings out of the crevices...
I hope to be driving it on a trip in the usa and sell it and buy a stock metal beetle for a proper daily driver. |
