View original topic: Aftermarket Rim Tire Size?

I just bought a 1973 914 1.7L and some aftermarket 8 spoke EMPI style rims came with it. I don't know the rim manufacturer. The rims are 15 inch diameter, 5.5 inch width, 4x130 lug with a 32mm offset. Can anybody let me know what size tires are likely to fit without any modifications to the car body? Any help would be appreciated

you can count on 165x15 fitting but maybe 195/65x15 would fit. You would have to try them before buying. This larger size would easily fit on stock 914 wheels with the 23mm offset.

I had 185/70x15 Michelin XAS on my 914 - that size is hard to find now. 185/65 x 15 is nearly an inch less in diameter so probably too small.

195/65 and 195/60....that second one being a little rare....both fit the rim perfectly. I do not know whether they fit under the fenders correctly. 205/60 and 205/55 also both fit the rim with no issues.

I will have to check my cheat sheet.....but 195/65 and 205/55 are the closest in circumference to stock.

IMHO.....there is no value in going to a wider tread AND keeping high profile sidewalls......so keeping a 70 series just means it gets even taller. Ray
