I have no feedback on this guy from anyone as an actual buyer but I have had a couple people ask about him as they suspected it might be a scammer.

As far as I know this is a real person.
I can see he "lowballs" tons of vehicle sellers.
As of right now he has emailed 200+ sellers since January 1, 2019
(This is a lot)

I see a couple abusive messages from him to sellers in his list of emails too.
I'm not sure why but it looks like they didn't respond to his offer and he became abusive in a followup email.
I have seen this happen in the past with other buyers sometimes.
If I get more reports about this buyer in the future he may be blocked.

He appears to be emailing from Israel so if you want to continue I would ask him if he knows how to retrieve and export the vehicle to his country.

On any overseas sale I would take payment by wire transfer ONLY.

The last person I told him them to ignore his emails if they had a bad feeling.
I believe they did that as they didn't really like the offer either.

I have had 2 emails from Ray each time right after I editied / renewed the ad for my '74 'vert. Each time it says:

hi
im ready to pay xx00$ for the car
ray

Where xx is my asking price. The response is fairly quick after my ad moves up, it looks like he has some kind of program set up to automatically respond to every new vehicle ad, although in this forum string he has made lower offers vs full price for mine. I am suspicious, especially given the 200+ offers noted below, so I have ignored so far. My car certainly wouldn't be worth the shipping cost to Israel.

Has anyone had an actual interaction that smelled of a scam like the one in this string (from someone else) where there is some strange money transaction proposed?

I had to go check things and as far as I know he's emailing people manually. The emails are not super close together and there are only a few at a time.

I have not heard anything about anyone actually dealing with him or getting a scam response but obviously I would like to know that if it happens. His email would be immediately blocked if that is true.

Please forward anything strange you get to to my direct email below if you want feedback or have questions.

I have my Ghia advertised here for $7950.
I got an eMail from Ray:
"hi
ready to pay 5000$
ray"

I replied:
"I'll bet you are"

Never another word.

After the lower offer, with no response from me, Ray comes back the next day with an inceased offer. However, I never responded to his original full price offer either some time ago due to suspicion over a very quick full price offer with no questions. It does look like he is manually trying to make it look legit but not managing it too well since he forgot the original full price offer a couple months ago. I will wait a little more before responding.

Perhaps Ray is targeting Old Farts, because everyone knows that we are easy marks.

I would guess he doesn't know he already emailed you as he seems to be emailing tons of sellers.

I just renewed my Ghia ad and Ray raised his "offer" to $5500.

Even though I told him I would not sell the car to him if he didn't establish his creditials as a legitimate importer of used cars, and he gave me a cursing reply in July, he is still randomly emailing me offers over the last 6 months. This includes ones within minutes of an edit, even though it is in the middle of the night in Israel.

I changed my ad to say no overseas sales since the car is not worth enough to ship or the bother of extra overseas scam responses, but he hasn't noticed. The offers are always $4000 now with similar standard wording with the exception of one where he throws in "do you have title" even though he has been pursuing this car for a year.

Has anyone gone farther with him to detect a scam, or successfully gotten him to go away?

outcaststudios Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:41 am
