Hi all!
1990 Westy, 2WD auto, with A.C.
Coming back home yesterday, the radiator fan kicked in at low speed and made a weird noise (see first video below). The cycles were also quite short, fan on for 15 seconds, off for 30, and so on. There was air flow, i.e. the fan was turning.
After a quick stroll on the forum, all similar subjects pointed towards a dying fan motor/bearings. Before tearing everything down and breaking the bank, I tested the fan via the temp switch connector, behind the lower grille. Lo and behold, it works just fine! See video below, it starts with low speed, than high speed, than back to low speed, for comparison.
What do you think? The relay maybe (is it the one behind the driver's headlight?)
Note that engine cooling system works as a charm. Radiator and thermostat are new (one month old, 200 km), bled with LibbyBong.
Also, if that helps: when turning on the A.C switches, the radiator fan does not kick in. But the A.C is disabled for now, the belt is off.
:o :?: |

Just thought of something... I should jump-wire the switch with the motor running, to see if that makes any difference. I'll report back later.
To all of you in B.C., Happy Family Day! |
