Feel free to add in your own questions, this is not intended for only my stupid and lazy questions and ideas.

First though: Sorry to offend anyone with this kind of topic, but general chitchat does not seem to be where to ask, and similar threads don't seem to be part of this forum.. Yet. Most likely because the folks here have some integrity, and class, and would never do idiotic stuff like I wonder about.

Now, admittedly, I am both lazy and I always ask stupid questions. Please bear with, as I get used to the culture here in the Split Forum.

Here is my first one:

What is the laziest faux front logo out there for my '65 Deluxe? Somewhere in the last 30 years, my original has gone missing while sitting behind my barn.

Perhaps there is a template I can use to cut one from a baking sheet? I have been shown a poster with percentages of scale, but I don't have the size in units like inches or centimeters.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Flames are fine too, btw.

Thanks! A good start. Now, what is the outside diameter of the front VW circle?

hazetguy Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:22 am

A lazy person wouldn't concern themselves with such trivialities.

bobbyblack Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:26 am

Hah! Maybe a 5 gal bucket lid will work.

The lazy part is that I don't know anyone within 50 miles I can go drive and measure one.

crofty Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:34 am

same size as a bucket of original recipe Kentucky fried chicken

This is close. Made it off my bus for a quilt pattern.

Try a sing shop. they may be able to cut it out of vinyl striping material if you take them the PDF file.

Cool, thanks!!

Is 317mm or 12.48" close enough to outside diameter?

edit:

Oh! I see from some photos in the classifieds that the pins on the back side are closer to the inside of the circle edge than to the outer diameter. Is that what others have seen?

Seems like about a 60/40% proportion with the posts being further in on the circle. Thoughts?

Please, in the name of all that's holy, do NOT make a peace sign instead of a VW logo.

How about something with an arrow sticking out of the circle?? ;-)

Ok, next stupid question:

What optional handle/lever has the same splines as my '65's inner front door handle?

Not only was that also missing after the long rest behind the barn, but the passenger front door latch is either really stiff, or frozen. I have been soaking it with a variety of penetrating oils every few months for a couple of years, but I cant get it to move. I did find a gray front door handle from a '67 I used to have, and that is pretty stubby.

So I am looking for suggestions on a longer lever with same splines as the door handle.

Thanks!!

Use a pair of vice grips. Cheap and lazy

crofty Wed Sep 18, 2019 2:27 pm

66 mustang for the handle AND you can use the taillights from it as an upgrade for your bus1

Drill a hole in a 6” 2x2 that’s slightly smaller than the diameter of the lever mount and hammer in place. You can even pick the exact angle you want for the lever.

Well, my dad got super pissed when he saw me in his car.. I got as far as pulling the clip on the handle and scratching his door card with the hook when he started kicking me and threatening to take me out of the will.

Are you worried he won't leave you a mustang missing a door handle and the taillights?

Major Woody Thu Sep 19, 2019 10:11 am

I disagree with Crofty. The proper taillights for a bus owned by a lazy person unconcerned with originality are early 60s Ford Falcon, not Mustang.

I got this information from the Jersey Look Handbook, so you know it's legitimate.

"Jersey" and "Legitimate" are not to be used in the same sentence. Ever.

I can't find that one on Amazon.. is it one of those self published ones? I need one! Maybe then I'll understand the quote "I'm from Jersey..You from Jersey?"

I was wondering if the Deluxe belt line trim insert is supposed to act like the rubber door stops on the standard. Are the rubber bump stops roughly the same height off the body as the Deluxe trim insert (and is that plastic?)

Some borrowed pic's here.
