I have just started restoration of a 67 Double Door Panel Van.
M Plate shows 757 and cannot find info on this.
Anyone any ideas please?

Cheers Len

Information on this site shows it limited to 1966-7 but found on Kombi’s, Deluxe, High roofs and even a single cab. Sounds like something common to many models of 1966-67 Bus’. All appear to be European model delivery.

Yes, it looks like it's unknown but seen on various Buses.

It appears that a ton of the 700 series M-codes are unknown so perhaps those are not well documented by VW

700s look like a lot of things governments, agencies or commercial customers would want.. lots of high roofs, ambulances, trucks.

Look at your bus for anything that seems interesting or different than other examples online, or that feels 'government' (tho original tires like in M710 are no doubt long gone).

I stripped the roof and the only colour of paint was white.
Not sure any Panels came with a white roof.
Any remote chance it could be that ?

Thanks for the replies, they are appreciated.

I’m sure there were panels from the factory with white roofs. Being commercial vehicles there is an incredible variety of color combinations. Look at obscure places for an original lower body color. You very well might be on to something.

It's a UK delivered Van.
Here is what is behind the seat.

Taubenblau= L 31 Dove Blue. It’s obvious that the color sticker is applied to that same body color. Most two tone Buses have a sticker that lists both colors. Yours lists just the one. So if the Bus has just white on the top then perhaps the unknown M code indeed signifies the white roof. Proof would be finding the other 757 Buses and determining their original roof color.

Thank You, just trying to get it right as it's a bare metal restoration :)

Panel buses could have been ordered with white paint on the roof. See the price sheet that was posted by Lind, it was in the thread about special paint on buses. Scroll down on my attachment and look at SK691 it shows dove blue with a white roof as a $31.13 cost option.

396- prepared for Great Britain
025 - safety belts
043 - swiss license requirements
061 - Seen on '67 RHD Kombi and '67 RHD Deluxe, both delivered to England. Seen on '67 RHD Canterbury Pitt Camper
En - England
2162 - double doors left and right
404083 - not an expert, but that looks like dove blue sides and top, and mesh grey upholstery

So apparently the roof should be blue, and it may have been sent to England for a camper conversion (or camper company liked using that variation?). Maybe the 757 is 'buyer changed mind on roof color...'

LOTS of buses had dealer and or owner applied white roofs. Simple way to lower interior temperature, however slightly. Looking at the vintage bus pix, you see plenty of them.
