View original topic: Brake Bleeding Rebuilt Caliper Question

I recently had my 78 T2 ATE callipers rebuilt. I'm finally at the point where my camper has the entire braking system restored and I want to bleed.

my callipers of course, have 2 bleeder valves. I remember a little while ago, seeing a picture online from an true official VW service manual. It showed a pic of the caliper, and had a pointer saying "do not bleed from here". However , I don't recall if it was the top or bottom one it pointed to. I've since searched and can't find the pic again online.

Can someone tell me the correct bleeder to use?

The crazy Bentley manuaIl says (under changing the brake fluid) to open the lower bleeder on late disc brake models, then open the upper bleeder and leave them both open till the fluid stops draining from the lower one.

That seems very confusing to me. If Im using a power bleeder and open both bleeders won't fluid just keep pouring from both?

Any help, pics would be appreciated.

Air rises, so use the top one on this or any other car or truck that I have ever seen.

The Bentley said to open both bleeders when the system is drained (as you would do every other year to change fluid), not when bleeding.

The "do not bleed from here" thing was referring to the bleeder valve on the pressure regulator on early bays, not the calipers.

the bottom bleeder is used to flush out any moisture, or remaining old fluid and sediment. The top valve bleeds out the air.

Thanks for the replies. That clears things up.
