View original topic: Turn signals sometimes work

Hi,

I am having issues with my 1971 type 2.

Sometimes when I drive the turn signals work just fine. Other times they do not.

The lights on my dash always light up with a use the turn signal. If the signal lights are actually working then the lights on my dash blink. If the turn signals are NOT working the lights on my dash stay a solid green.

My hazards work all the time. I have replaced my relay so that is not an issue.

Any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you

Telford Dorr will hopefully be around soon to tell you what to do. When he comes by please tell him I still need my brake warning light fixed

Welcome!
I'd start by making sure all the bulbs installed are of the correct wattage, while you are at it confirm the sockets are all clean and grounded to the body properly as well.

What ^^ he ^^ said,

If the dash indicators light but don't flash, then start with the front and rear bulb sockets. Get a cup style or end style wire brush and a Dremel tool. Remove each bulb from its socket, then buff the interior of the socket and the base contact fingers until they're all bright and shiny. May take a while - keep at it. Do the metal on the bulb, too. When they're done, apply a thin film of dielectric grease to the bulb base and reinstall.

Next, inspect the wires plugged onto the rear of the bulb socket. Disconnect (one at a time) and give them the wire wheel treatment. Reinstall with a little dielectric grease. Don't forget the ground wires - check both ends.

That should fix it. If not, come back for more ideas.

(I was supposed to take that broken indicator home and overhaul it. Everybody forgot - too much poptop tent fun...)

before sticking anything in a bulb socket, I would disconnect the battery. Make sure you don't leave a wire from the brush in there.
