That's scary.
I rather something that lifts the entire car and has a positive locking system so it not relying on the lifting mechanism to hold it. |

Search Quick Jack. I believe it’s a better solution. I don’t have room for my Bend Pak lift and may sell it and get a pair of these Quick Jacks for working on the race car and van. |

I’ve saw this recently. No experience with it, but you can further jack up the car while it’s on it.

Of course if you ask there, the gang will have you raising the garage 3' and expanding the footprint by 50%. :D |

Is your ceiling into an attic or the floor above? |

And if the ceiling is the floor for rooms above it, how many feet are you willing to raise those rooms? Alternatively, are you willing to delete those rooms to create a loft for the new two-post 10K lb lift? :D :D :D |

Alt-Alternatively, are you willing to drop the floor?
(That's my plan  ) |

That lift is just to scary for me. On top of that you cannot ck fluids when the vehicle is not flat. To give you a better opinion we would need to know more about your shop. Do you have a good concert pad to bolt something to or are you working on a dirt floor. In my case I raised the ceiling and installed a two post bend pack lift but I was in the middle of a major renovation. Before I did that I had a medium raise scissors lift that was portable that I would sometimes move outside to work with it on a piece of 3/4 inch plywood. I just looked at Norhern Tools and equipment and they have lots of choices listed. When I have bought my lifts I found internet sellers for a lot less money. I bet you could find a low or medium lift on Craig’s list for way less than half of New. Just my thoughts. John |

the garage is just a few years old and the ceiling and floor are not moving! it's essentially a single car garage with a 16' door... workbenches, equipment on one side, storage cabinets on the other. sealed concrete floor with center drain. heated and (extremely) well lit.
inside, i can raise the back of a Vanagon high enough to pull a fully dressed engine out the bottom. it'd be interesting to see a Vanagon on one of these tilt lifts and see what the dynamics are... wobbly-ness, balance, access to roll a transmission jack under while the rear is lifted. BUT, unlike the motocycle lift where i can store a bike on it while not in use, this thing would be in the way all the time. |

There are short two post lifts designed just for that situation with a quick release so you can get it out of your way when you are not using it. But I would go with a the portable scissors lift myself assuming you are not parking a vary low car over it daily. You could also move the portable scissors lift out of the way as well. I think the lift you are showing us is more designed for a dealer to display cars than to work on them. John |

But it would be just the thing for those who like to use the Bentley method to bleed the coolant. |

I think I might be more comfortable working like the guy in that classic photo of the truck tipped on its side with a 2x4 holding it up while someone was working on the chassis!
Nope, not using that SeeSaw lift!
Actually, I've always felt uneasy under the two post lifts..... just seem "tippy" to me........ We lost a 190SL off one decades ago. It was left in the air overnight (a major No No) and frame rot gave away during the night. Came in to a well destroyed 190SL come morning!
Now, the drive on ramps? I like that one!

I've been eyeing a set of these.. even if to lift the end and set the van on stands. I currently use 2 jacks (one under each trailing arm) to lift an end of the van at a time .

the Kwik Lift looks to fit the bill well.. i really like that you can drive over it when not in use. made in USA and pricing seems reasonable, $1200-$1900. cool! will have to check clearance for a Westy tho. |

this is probably the best way to go
you can get the lower height permanent install lifts also. we have a really old one at our WA shop. might be worth looking into something like that if you dont mind a permanent install.
the maxjax look like a good option if you want to have the space back when youre not working |

I have this lift. It's 9' tall, and has been great so far. If you can fit a lift that's exactly 9' by removing some sheetrock or something, I would do it. I've used it every single day since I had it installed.
