After a search I didn't find my answer, so here goes: is the 6v starter in a bus and bug compatible with a ghia? While I think it should be because the bus and bug 6 volt starters are interchangeable, I've learned not to assume anything about these cars. My starter's dead (just a click from the solenoid) and I want to buy one ready to install when I remove mine versus waiting to have it rebuilt. Thanks!

All the same.

IMHO ....... almost anything you buy today will be inferior to having the original properly rebuilt...... or rebuild it yourself.

I recently rebuilt an alternator, just for two high quality bearings I spent close to $100. Much more than a "rebuilt" alternator costs. Then again, I could have gotten cheapo bearings for about $5 each.
What bearing do you think a mass rebuilder is probably using???? (If they even replace them)

Totally agree. But I'm going to get a rebuilt Bosch from WW at the ready to install when I remove mine. Then I'm going to have mine rebuilt at the same place that did the original starter in my former '59 Westy that's still going strong. I'll keep it in my stash should the WW rebuilt jobby ever fail.

Yes, you have to forgive Kent. He is new to the karmann Ghia business. Perhaps he did not know that a K.G. is actually a rebodied VW Beetle.
