i usually rebuild and sell a couple buggys a year but i dont normally post much of them. i recon maybe im just old and think people share too much on the net just to get attention. but then i thought, you know, if people didnt share so much what would i read while im on the toilet ?
so i thought id start doing my part, and here's a little rail im building for the wife...
i believe its a corvair fugitive chassis. i wanted to build her an automatic as she can drive a stick, just not proficient at it and some of these old vw trans / shifters can be a little tricky.
after picking up this chassis i realized corvair is kinda like vw and went from a " swing axle" to an irs in mid 69's , so i decided to change this one to an irs.
aside from that so far ive changed the roof design and widened the floor from 36" to a more comfortable 50".

well, couple pics didnt upload.. ill post more after i figure that out

floor and roof changed

A guy had an IRS Corvair with automatic that he dragraced nearly every weekend. It had a all alum V8 from the early 60's irrc [ might have been a Buick V6, this was the early 90's :) ]. This car had the motor in the back not mid engined. The irs came out in 1964.

I really like your roof & windshield modifications!....it gives that rail a very nice shape. Keep up the good work.

also, few new pics

replaced the stock irs bushings with heims

got some 9" stock car coilovers tacked up, should be plenty for a mostly street rail. and got turbo exhaust all mocked and tacked

1960 thru 1964 were all swing axles and the ones that Nader had it gripe with. In 1965, they went to the IRS type rear suspension. Carried that on until end of production in late 1969.

Looks like you have a great project going on there. Keep us posted.

Love the Corvair engine! I jealous! Too bad about the auto trans though...

Ya, I know, woman driver and all... still...
