View original topic: Differences between '49 and '50 cases

I've noticed that the '49 case I'm planning on using is missing an important feature. I believe this feature was added in 1950. If you look at the picture below there's a little notch that allows oil poured down the generator stand to flow from the front of the case to the rear.

When oil is poured into my '49 case, it's deposited into the rear of the case. Moreover, this notch isn't present. Hmmmm. Should I notch my '49 case so oil flows freely between the front and rear sections?

Cheers,

Paul

PR entry reads: Jan 1950, from chassis 1-0138765, unit # 170086:
Crankcase: "Now: Oil can be completely drained off (passage through timing gear chamber)"

I have notched my 49 case, then you can use all oil in the engine.
