Yup. I agree whole heartedly.
About the only thing I'd worry about is what they did to put the later engine in. Did they start a 12 volt conversion? Swap out the flywheel for an O ringed 6 volt flywheel to keep it all 6 volt? And if so, did they swap out the big alloy cooling fan shroud? These will be questions you'll have to look into. |

Your squareback, most likely was brought back to the US by a Serviceman/Woman. I say that due to your proximity to AFBases. There are lots of Euro spec VWs in Texas. Coupled with a moderate climate, nice examples like this pop up. They were either a direct purchase from a dealer in Europe or was part of a Tourist program that featured a new VW with a vacation package.
Most VW's don't have their original motor. They are so easy to pull out like batteries, most previous owners did as well as dealer/service shops.
