The show is about 70% air 30% water normally. Last octo it was qabout 55% AC 45 WC, because a few WC clubs came out in groups to show.
Why does it matter anyway? :? |

I won't be going this time around. Another guy in a '57 bug and myself as well as a couple wc's got rejected from the gates because we were 30 seconds after the deadline of gate entry....or so they said. Also, after going for the spring meet and having a 100% mod'd 23 window win the stuck type 2 class, I got annoyed. Also, thay 90% of the awards were for the wc guys, not gonna go there again. I will however hit Volksfest in Yakima/Naches even though it is a 3 hour longer drive than it is to Puyallup. Sorry, venting. |

Even though both shows are starting to cater to the watercooled (no aircooled on the springmeet shirts...that's fucked) , I like the octo show better. Those guys are a little more respectful. I'll still be kicking it in the parking lot as usual though. If I wanted to see a bunch of watercooled cars, I would go to the import shows or waterwagons show.
P.S. I've started taking a list of contacts over the year for people that want to attend a springmeet alternative. An open, non-judged, laid back aircooled show with bands, bbq, games for the pee wees, and just plain ol' appreciation for everyone's ride, trailer queens or not. Where everyone can crack a brew, meet other owners, shoot the shit, and share/learn a thing or two....the way it should be! |

Agreed, it should have had both on the shirt.

Who is to say who deserves to be there? So what, if half of the cars end up being watercooled? That is half. There are still half that are air. The only difference is the show itself gets bigger(assuming people stop boycotting). Is it so wrong for the show to get bigger. The aircooled have always had aircooled enthusiast judging them, the water-cooled have never (so who should really be bitching). That is, until this past year, when promoters decided to ask WC enthusiast to judge. Fair is fair right? (or at least it should be)
BTW did you notice that all but 1 of the 7 or so "best of show awards" went to AC.
This was also the 1st year the WC were actually classed properly. I am sure you wouldn't want to see supers's in the same class with bay's and type 4's etc. That is the way is has been for the WC all along. Just because of years they were grouped in the same class. That is the way it has been for the wc for years.

I think this is great too. And if you planned it I would come.
I mean no disrespect in my post, I just wish people would realize there are 2 sides to every fence.
I have been on both sides. |

I respect and understand your point Dereik. Alot of the times, the judging just stinks...for w/c and a/c. There is bad politics and vibes at alot of shows and this just happens to one in my opinion. Not letting people in 30 secs after the gate is closed, a buddy of mine being turned away because he was 15 minutes late-after he prepaid for a swapspace, promised swap spaces being ganked and reassigned without notification. One year my buddy showed his beautiful, I mean one freakin' nice ass 61' bug and lost to a Canadian that had to push his car in because it wouldn't start, in the wrong class, and covered his big ass dent up with a surfboard.
What kind of crap is that?
I know every show isn't going to be perfect but when you have all year to plan one, promote and have done them multiple times in the past, things should be going alot smoother and better than the last, not just bigger.
I'm not the only one that feels this way. A majority of people I speak to about the show walk out pissed, bored, and extremely disappointed, especially after waiting all winter for the first show, and it seems like they lose alot of a/c attendies as a result. I don't mean to sound brash , I just want them to step it up a notch. Put more money into promotion, catering, be linient with the back gate, bring on some bands etc. I've been to Cali a ton of times for shows (BOR, Classic etc.) and they set a good example of how a show should be run and just because they have alot of sun and we don't doesn't mean we can't do the same.
I don't have a problem with w/c's. I've had plenty of gti's, a corrado, rabbits, jettas, and now have a vanagon i'm about to do up but those promotors need to pay a little bit more homage to the cars that show was built on...Not say, "well, we're going to start catering to the w/c's because that's where the money is at." That's bullshit VWoA talk and I don't want to be a part of it. |

hey man...anyone can buy a jetta or passat or golf, put some rims on it, a stereo and tuna can on it and call it a
"show car". I think there is a lot of pride in owning a vintage or even a classic vw for the SB croud. I say screw the Pumpers...there is NO comparison in their engineering Brian... I don't give a rats ass about the other side of the fence or i would buy one...they have their so called "shows" and the ac crowd have theirs. I don't mind them coming out to appreciate the heritage of their car company but there is no comparison. I go because i like shows, its unfortunate (for me) that there are WC in the show. But its not like anyone up here is building shows cars. Thats a stupid arguement. Its like having sport and superbikes show up for a Harley Davidson show. |
