| Thinking of converting my automatic 88 Vanagon to a manual. Gas mileage really sucks with the auto. Any advice or comments? |

How ironic I am thinking of doing just the opposite. I've had terrible luck trying to find a good automatic for my parents to drive...
my 4 speeds are lined up and down the driveway like puppies at the ASPCA office...
actually, it probably is pretty striaght forward, remove the auto, install the standard trannie, make sure you get the CV's because I am told they are different...
put in a clutch, shifter etc..... 8) |

CV's are NOT different, AXLES are different lengths on automatic Vanagons, i.e. one is shorter than the other and neither the same as a stick.
