I want to add some coolant to my system which has the G12 VW coolant in it. Ive heard that the newer G13 coolants are compatible? Any truth to this?

Last time I bought some at the dealer I noticed it changed form 12 to 13. I asked the parts desk guy about it, and he claimed it was fine to mix them. I’ve been running a combination of the 2 for a while now with no issues. For whatever that’s worth I guess.

Should be trust worthy! :)

There are several G12s. However, it appears from this random chart off the internet that G13 can be added to any of them. Infact I think that's why they developed G13.

How much coolant are we talking about? Would it be easier to just add water if it's not too much? I doubt it will change the ratio very much. If my math is right and you lose a 1L if 50/50 and add 1L of water to top it off you end up with a 47/53 mixture.

Yeah I converted my Syncro to the pink G-12 a long time ago because my 2 newer VW cars call out for it. I used G-13 on my last MK4 Jetta TB change.
