View original topic: Hoping for some help identifying a part

Hello!

I have (slowly) been restoring a 1970 KG, and these forums have been an incredible help in lurker mode - thank you!

I am hoping someone can assist with identifying a part - I have been through all of the part lists and cannot find any reference to it, anywhere.

There is a cable that connects the pre-heated air inlet flap lever on the oil-bath air-cleaner to a lever on the fan housing, so that pre-heated air is the air cleaner source until the engine warms up and the thermostat opens. The mechanism used to connect the bare cable end to the fan housing lever is a screw with a hole drilled in the shaft near the screw head; the cable end just slips in the hole and the screw is tightened down, much like adjusting brakes on a bicycle.

I could fabricate something, but if the actual part exists somewhere I would rather go that route. (And it is driving my OCD brain a bit crazy not even being able to find a reference anywhere :D )

Pic of the part in question below. I do have the orig part, but the threads on the screw are corroded or worn to the point where they no longer hold.

Thanks for any leads or info - it is appreciated.

Patrick

Welcome to The Samba!

Perhaps try searching under Air filter, thermostat, bowden cable clamp. These were used in '68-'70 Busses, Beetles, & Ghias.

Thanks VERY much for the quick response. Even knowing the correct part name/terminology I still can't find it in the Ghia Parts list here on the site ( https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/1972_ghia_parts_book.php) , but that is exactly what I needed to know.
