  View original topic: cilinderhead oil spill?

cilderhead 3 and 4 are clean but on 1 and 2 there is oil spill between de cilinder and the head. Even de tin is covered with oil right above the cilder and head. There is no oil spil between the cilinder and the crankcase (type 4 engine)
Question? is there a quick fix by just torx the cilinderbolt or do I have to replace the cilnderhead?

you can try torquing ALL the cylinder head nuts in the correct sequence and see if that helps, but it would be a pain to get that far and have to do it again. I'd be thinking doing a quality valve job and flycut on both heads. Also you could try doing a cylinder leakdown test to see if you can hear any air escaping in that area, then do it again after retorquing all the nuts to see if it stops. Often it can eat into the aluminum so the fix may only be temp. They could have built it with head gaskets too and they could be blown.

MAKE SURE that the pushrod tubes are dry and that they aren't the source of oil.

If you have a helper crank the engine over with the coil wire disconnected, you can listen carefully to the compression of the engine. If you hear a PSSST during cranking, the combustion leaks are probably beyond a retorque. If the engine is out of the car, no excuse not to remove the head bolts, clean the threads, and retorque them with a drop of oil on the clean threads.

As suggested by turning over the moter is makes a PSST sound on cilinder side 1 and 2. So I guess the next step will be take off the head and see what wrong. (I will post the results)

It looks to me like that oil is tracking down the studs from the head nuts inside the rocker box. For that much oil to be via the cylinders wouldn't you be followed by a cloud of smoke?

The engine runs great and there is no smoke. The reason why the engine is out of the car it need new sealing and clutch. Then I discovered that the engine mount are worn out. By replacing I found out the oil spill on the Cilinder head.

Thanks for the suggestion I will check if they used the correct washers en check the torq (3.2mkg or 23ft.lb.)

You have a bad seal between the head and the cylinder for some reason. VW recommended the removal of the sealing ring that was originally used here and instead just use metal to metal contact. VW made this recommendation specifically for the 2.0 but I believe it best to apply it to all engine sizes. Depending on whether your heads have steps built into them you may or may not need to add the thickness of the removed gasket back in between the cylinder and the case. You want a piston to head clearance of 0.030-.060".

update: closer look after removing the tin. The breather box is wet from oil could that cause of the oil on the cilinder?

It is not running out of the rocker box but from top of the engine via the studs to the cilinder head. The breather box is leaking oil and the sealing of the flywheel. There is an opening on top of the engine to the flywheel.
