I got the gauge pod and it will work great. Even was pre drilled in back for hose connection. I will likely weld the bracket to the column to avoid a clamp and look cleaner. There are 2 mounting holes and I can use those. The bracket and pod will be column colored. Without the body here where to put it is tricky so I will mount 1/2 out from turn signal mount.

Thanks I saw those. Maybe those and repro backing plates is an option.
Have you checked the Type 3 covers? |

While sorting through parts I noticed the Early 56 door top chrome is different
I had a January 56 Ghia that had aluminum trim see below change 1-043-953
These are very thick and look like they were cut with a torch. Later trim was relieved in that same area that joins to the window. My March 56 are much heavier due to this.
L 141-853-333
R 141-843-334
L 141-853-333 A when did this start and what was different.
L 141-853-333 B after lowlight era but then changed till Nov 59 used about 8 months
L 141-853-333 C says up to 2-528-668 and from 2-690-113. Must not have liked the change with clips? All lowlight top door trim is secured by screw the trim slides onto.
Part numbers from my July 58 parts manual. Someone has hand written in deleted and use part A at end of original numbers
Part B extends from chassis 2-528-668. The aluminum and my March 56 must just be supplier changes.
Doors change at
L 141-831-051 In Jan 57 Parts book - when and what changed
L 141-831-051 A up to 2-395-180 About April 1959
L 141-831-051 B 2-395-181 to 2-528-667 to end of Lowlight
Weather strip
141-837-475 up to 1-043-953 Jan 56 must be for aluminum trim
141-837-475 A 1-043-954 to 2-528-667 end of Lowlight era
Also look at the bow in the center. The later trim has much more bow. I wonder if the doors were different or they just didn't want to push on the windows as hard.

My May 56 trim is the bowed version
Inner edge (parallel to the glass) crudely cut
Heavy

The chassis painter came over today. We will take the chassis over next week
We talked about how to move it around so I went out and bought 4 - 8 in lawn mower wheels. Fit fantastic using existing shock bolts. About $55 solution and they can moved it around their shop and I can get it in my car hauler to deliver it.
Track is about 890 mm in the back and 900 mm in the front so a little out. I can't find a speed rating on the wheels anywhere.....

In getting the rims ready 2 clips were missing. Using some 1/2 in plate and a high speed cutter I made the backing tool for the rivets. About a 30 min job and installed 2 clips.
You have to cut a slot for the rim lip to fit in so the river seats. I just skimmed up the side of the tire opposite the rivet and it went pretty easy.

Thanks so a close up of my March 56 shows the thick edge and sometime by when your May 56 came out the edge was milled down. Looks like more bow too as you indicate. I can imagine how easy mine will go back on....
March first and May second , Both start out with very rough cut edge toward the glass. Rubber buffers it so no issue.

Early seat frames.
The black are my March of 56 frames and the other are April 57 seat frames.
Note how the small gusset on the back was moved to the inside and spanned the front side. This was to strengthen the seat frames. Mine were cracked.
Also I see the seat chrome adjust arm was shorter and had one pin and the later 2 pins. They likely twisted off or bent with one. Also the adjuster pivots were tack welded as well as riveted.

hi Jeff
my october56 ghia have the both different upper chromtrims on the doors. so it have one for left and one for Right side. you cant mount the left one on other side and the Right on left side. i mean that the later trims can mount on both sides of car... |

You are correct the parts numbers are different on the door top chrome. Maybe the trim is wider where it meets the rear quarter window trim. I will look. |

Love the thinback detail

Here is a thinback from my May ‘56
Rear bracing.
Does this contradict your info?
My seats had a weak spot...both of the short outer runners, spot welded to the frame, had become detached.

Matches what I saw. It means the design I have at least extends past your build date.
I've had my site Karmannghias.org for 20 years so I post all my personal photos there. I guess it could end. If someone wants to buy it, I'll write in they have to keep the photos there for 10 more years! |

When I restored the Alken I was partial to the Sundial horn button. Split Parts is helping with one to fit the Petri Ring for the 56 Ghia. He sent me a pic today of the button and chrome ring. It looks suberb.

What do I have, I can't read the part numbers.
My 4 bumper brackets with trout blue are accompanied by 4 other rear nos brackets.
Two are certainly nos 56/57 with wide spread holes for the decorative covers. This pair is in the center.
The other pair have holes closer together. What years are these for? This pair is at the bottom.
UPDATED:7/28
Interesting US spec bumpers use the same rear bumper brackets and covers because the support bar does not go through the cover. The ones at the bottom must be newer Ghias from the 60s on.
