Cutting it out was easy, finishing could take a while.

From the gallery:
Some would choose to live (drive) with that. Others would feel compelled to take action.
I'm with the latter but understand the positions of both. |

It's also dry season. As someone without a garage myself, I can relate to the impossibility of tackling rust work in the winter. |

That "before" pic has me worried about the rust on my '81
B.O.B Great use of the cut out piece. Did you "glue" in the new metal?
avwa: are you going to weld in new metal?

At 70 years old folks think I'm always on vacation. |

The before picture doesn't look bad and it wasn't really but I knew it was there. Stopped the water years ago and it never got worse, it was all dry when I cut it open. The new panel will be spot welded on the bottom and epoxy bonded every where else. |

Welded in.
I had to outsource the job - I wish I had the space, equipment, skill, and time to have done it myself.
The guy at the body shop (hard to find nowadays) took the old side panel and recreated the edge of the floor that was rotten. He even fabricated the "ridge" on the inside along the floor. Awesome work.
Here is a pic from a bit later in the process.
B.O.B. is actually the "Butt-ugly Orange Bus". (Never ask for someone's opinion if you don't really want to hear it) |

Wasn't even damp when I took it out but sure was years ago. It's raining here now so I placed it along with some other materials outside to see who wins. |

Thanks avwa and owner of B.O.B. Good to see what could be done. Given the pace I work at, I'll need my own garage before I open up the '81. I mean how bad could it be? LOL.
2008 or so
view looking from front to rear behind kitchen cabinets. Though I sprayed rust convertor paint on that, I'm sure it's been rusting out from the bottom side.

It's kinda of like "owning" a cat. You can pretend to make all the decisions and you have to pay all the bills, but "staff" is really a better descriptor than owner. :D
