Hi all,
I changed the oil in my 85 Vanagon yesterday, 20w50 and a new Mann filter. Standard stuff. Immediately after the oil change I started the engine and there was a huge cloud of smoke. We’re talking smokescreen! I shut the engine off and checked it out, no fires! I started it up again and there was less smoke but it went away as the engine warmed up after a ride around the block. The next day I took it for a ride and there was a lot of smoke on the initial start up, but it cleared up again after the engine warmed up. The van seems to be running fine otherwise. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

| Did you by chance over fill it? |

| Fair question, but it was middle of the dipstick. |

| Smoke out the tailpipe or smoke from under the van? |

Hmm, crankcase breather tower issue maybe?
Is the 20w-50 the same viscosity oil you had in the engine before the oil change? |
