View original topic: Solex 34 PICT 3 vacuum take off tube - spare & blanking plug?
RC68Westfalia Mon Aug 31, 2020 1:49 pm

I've searched so forgive me for not knowing what the correct word/term is, and this already here somewhere

On my SOLEX 34 PICT 3 there are a couple of vacuum ports on the rear that I need to blank off, issue is I don't have the right sized brass tube ... does anyone know where to buy these from?

I also need some the rubber bung/blanking plugs too - can't find those either, I know hose and screw works too

Cheers

if the port is there cut a piece of rubber hose off that fits over it, stick a screw or a rivet in the end with a little RTV and it will be fine.

Welcome!

Are you saying you've lost the nipples?, or are there holes that just look empty?, not all the bosses for nipples are drilled on all carbs, make sure it's not just a blank first.

Guys - thanks

The nipple/port/vacuum take-off union isn't there - they seem to stick to the tube better than the Carb in my experience.

I have two ports on my Carb that need to be blanked off, I have checked BD and they are open, and I have the one nipple.

I think it's probably 4.9mm diameter, I found places that sell the rubber blanking plugs, but not these.

Cheers

I'd look around it to see if it is laying on the tin.

So, in case anyone needs one of these in the future, I found what I was after, called a 'Vacuum pipe brass union'

for sale here

https://www.webcon.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=254&bc=no

I suspect that OD 5mm is a little big as I tried a union off a Solex 30/31 and that was too ever so slightly too big, so the actual OD for the 34PICT3 might be 4.9mm

They also sell the blanking plugs, which are easier to find

A tad of JB Weld would hold the nipple in place, while a short screw and some gasoline resistant goo would block any open ports. A wooden dowel sanded to a taper could be used as a bung and probably last ten years or more.

 Is a Brit going to know what a FLAPS is? I’m assuming Wiltshire is UK. (I know, don’t assume).
