Ok so what fuel filter does everyone use? I like the clear ones so I can see the fuel unside. I keep seeing everyone say not to use the "Chinese junk" and to only get a "good German" one.

So how do I know which is chinese and which is german? All the major online sites below have them, but how do you tell which is which?

If you're lucky enough to have a Mom & Pop autoparts store, this HASTINGS is a staple item.

In 1969 or 1970, I installed one of the Mann WK31/2 Filter in my 1968 MGB and since getting my 68 Beetle in 1986, there's also been a Mann WK31/2 Filter in it.
Never have had a problem with that filter in either car,

Get the one from Jbugs—if it has the flat can inside the the filter screen. Those are probably the ones made in Israel, and I’ve used them for years without any issues.

Perhaps these aren’t as good as the tin-can suggestions, but I, too, like to see inside for rust, etc.

My filer is under the car so kinda hard to see.

And if you have a rust issue.... remove, clean and seal the tank. No more rust issue.

My 1835cc engine has a single Weber 40DCNF with small jets, so I use an all-metal filter similar to what Glenn showed in his post above.

My 1970 with 1600cc DP engine has only its screen in its fuel pump and a filter sock inside the fuel tank - like VW designed it.

Glenn, my filters are also under the car: one under the fuel tank, and another by the transmission.

And I don’t have any rust in my fuel tank, but if and when it occurs, a clear filter is easier for me to observe any contaminants—even if they’re under the car.

I could pull my gas tank just to check for rust, say once every two years, but that seems like a hassle that I can avoid simply by looking at my fuel filter which is under the tank.

So in the 4 links I posted above, are they all the same filter, just sold 4 diff places, or are any of them not the junky chinese ones ppl say to stay away from?

Where does one get one of these?

I had one that looked similar in my bug when I got it, but since removed it because I like the clear one to be able to see any particulates. I still have the one I removed, not sure if its the same one, it looks exactly the same except without the printed markings in it... I'll have to take a look at it.

Don't know where in the USA, in Europe we have several Mahle suppliers.
Try to find a company in the USA that supplies Mahle products.
The fuel filter KL13 is listed in de USA catalog.

I've been using the NAPA Gold filters which are made by WIX. They have a plastic see-through one that filters down to 7 microns.

The only filter I use is the stock cone screen in the fuel pump and the tank sock. Works just fine. When I restore the tank, I may consider a steel filter alongside the transaxle but that's just another point to leak, fail, maintain, etc.

I have been running these for years with success...

Napa Gold 3001. Should be the one in the photos with the super small inlet and outlet for a car, but yea nice size filter you can see.

I was told by a builder, after new tank, rubber lines, cleaning of metal line, to go no more than 6,000 on one... This is to be routine and for preventative maintenance... RB

p.s. I had no issues with a 2110 and two of these filters before the Single IDF Carb. And with my Dell filter's in the carb, no issues as of yet.... On a 2180.
