Is scraping them off the only solution? Its a damn chore it is.

Get some freezing spray or co2 fire extinguisher. Freez it and it comes off OK when brittle.

Everything I’ve seen is that if they’re still firmly glued on, the pans are usually not horrible.

I used a air scraper on the little that was left.

If you are talking about the gluey residue left when the insulation or tar boards are removed, try spray on oven cleaner.

Leave it for a few hours until you end up with a crusty, powdery layer and it tends to scrape off very easily. At least it did with mine.
