I'm starting the reassembly stage... Re nuts & bolts - most, but not all, of the hardware is generic and easily and cheaply replaced with new without too much trouble... But there are a few pieces which are vehicle specific (excepting that they too be bought new from VW vendors at a push) and I'm thinking to have these tumbled and replated.
I've searched, but not found, a list of split bus hardware but am thinking the likes of front beam mounting bolts (M12x50x1.5) & lock washers and RGB to spring plate attachment bolts (M12x25x1.5).
Any suggestions for other funky hardware I might throw in along with these? |

The parts list has entries for all the hardware with specs for it. If the piece of hardware has an N number like N17 234 5, then it is just standard off the shelf hardware. If it has a VW parts number than it is VW specific specialty hardware.
Not all the stuff you can buy new matches perfectly with original hardware in shape or finish, but it will often work. Make sure you get the correct hardness, etc. |

That's interesting about the N numbers thank you; didn't know that (out of curiosity, what does an AM prefix mean? i.e. N104401 (steering box mounting bolt) is AM 10x40, rather than just M10x40...).
I'm aware of the hardness requirements for some of these which is why I'm keen to reuse original hardware in some places.
Going to add transmission carrier bolts to the list... |
