I've searched the Samba, web, and vendor sites, but I don't find anyone selling just the stock size crush washers. I'd have to buy all new spring sets! They come in engine rebuild gasket kits, but I'm not finding them sold separately.

Your local "Ace Is The Place" should have them...or any well stocked hardware store.

Thanks, I hadn't checked there (darn near everywhere else, though!). It gives the size, too:
18 x 22 mm, N138174
Interesting they don't use copper. In fact, all of the rebuild gasket sets I've seen use this aluminum type. I wonder why?

When I get one I'll check out the local ACE store and Belmetric site and post the exact part numbers.

On the left are copper crush washers from Brazil gasket kit. On the right are whatever material, maybe aluminum from German Elring gasket kit extreme left thicker washers are aftermarket, not VW related but I might try someday 😀

Here is crushed compared to brand new, quite a difference
