Anyone install a small microwave in their van yet? I've been studying different lower wattage models but the amp load is still quite high.

Using a pure sine-wave inverter with enough of a load rating is the first step but that thing it going to pull some serious amps!

I could do it electrically, technically, but is it worth the space and heavy battery tax?

Maybe it comes to how often it will get used but its one of those wonder-devices that would likely get used more and more if its available! The coffee, the ready to eat meals (Im lazy and don't like cooking... so shoot me) reheating old pizza, hot chocolate! ETC

I was really hoping this was a thread on installing one of these as a conversion.

the cookstove will be far more capable and faster to heat those items.
pizza in a flat pan with a lid is superior to nuked pizza.

we had a small cube dorm microwave it wouldn't pop popcorn.. and took tens of minutes to boil water..
it's a power issue.
if it draws less power (so you can use it in a van easier) it takes longer.
and may never achieve the temps required for your use..

I can't imagine a microwave lasting long getting bounced around off-road.

just make sure your van is running. Have someone goose the gas if you need it any faster.

Amps calculation with voltage of 12V DC
For DC power supply, amps are equal to watts divided by volts.

amp = watt / volt

amps = 800W / 12V = 66.667A

The only thing that surpasses the stupidity of buying a jeep is putting a microwave in a Vanagon. Why do you hate food?

Just sayin'...

Have you even driven one before ordering? Its like a joke man. They feel made for college kids or at least 110lb girls to pick up groceries with. No room whatsoever inside. Rides like a buckboard. Frame and suspension parts that look like toys compared to actual 4x4's. Just the worst! I know one guy who bought one and sold it within 6 months. He then got the second worst thing out there, a Colorado diesel 4x4 pick-up, which I rode in and started laughing because it rode so bad and felt like typical American made crap. He very quickly traded that in and just went full Ford 4x4 pick-up.

Good luck though.
