Way back in 2007 I purchased a 1964 Type 34 Ghia with the intent to fix it up, drive it, have some fun like we all do. Within a month, my fickle heart moved towards making it into a real convertible. At the time Tram here on the Samba was dinking around with his own Ghia vert creation. I hatched a scheme with him, made a loose deal and sent my 64 from San Antonio TX to Springfield OR.

Unfortunately this is where things stalled, stalled for 13 years. I moved, got different homes and jobs, turned Bay for a while, still am, severed a big relationship, entered into a new far better one, moved, new job..... Wink You know, life shit. Laughing

Needless to say, I moved back home. Where I was born and raised, where all my OG VW Amigos still live, home of the Carne Asada Burrito. San Diego CA - SoCal baby. Along with that came other changes. I had to finalize the restoration of my 1974 Hard ToP Westfalia, sell it all before I could even entertain another project. Do some backyard work to improve life and make a VW landing pad.

The bus was the biggest deal. Now that its been finalized and for real, I can now shift efforts towards my original T3 afflictions.

Last August, I thought I was going to just sell off the T34 stuff and be done with it. Luck had it, I didn't have to go that path. So I ended up picking up a good portion of it instead.

Due to life changes on Trams end, I ended up with his original 66 34 project convertible, my 64 posted above and some of the body parts and pieces I had from another 64 parts car. I still need to make another run to get the blue 64 rolling chassis. I hope to do that soon.

Thats the back fill so far. So what I have at present is a 66 partial finished vert in the pics below. The plan is to make it into a 64. When I get the 64 chassis, I may swap the pans, maybe not. Not completely sure how it will shake out. It also depends on titles and vin tags - I have two 64 T34 titles and vin tags. One will be on this convertible.

Ive started in on little things. I've played with the fog lights, headlights - both SB13's and Euro style ones and a steering column. Ill most likely redo the fog lights as I sprayed them with chrome paint backyard mechanic style.

Glad to see this project come to fruition. I'm not sure if you're on IG, but there is a guy out of Thailand who has been reproducing type 34 parts.

Nothing earth shattering going on. Im working on getting the 64 chassy out of Oregon. Looks like the shipper can go late this week, early next. It will be nice to have all of it here in one place again to go through and make a plan.

Other than that just been dinking around with some of the parts. I cleand and painted the SB13 buckets and sourced a set of BOSCH H4's. Bosch H4s are stupid hard to find. Hella, no problem. For some reason Bosch, there aint many, none are new, and they are hard to get. I guess they wernt popular or bosh let hell have the market. Weird. But I got a set if I decide to go this way.

I also found a nice set of orange needle T34 gauges.

Interresting, I never knew that Bosch were making lights in Sweden.

I tell you what. It sure is nice being home with my amigos. Pedro, Jack, Lee, Ron, Russel and Eric. Great core group of guys and knowledge. Makes the parts bin that much bigger when in need.

At the moment, I will be working off what Tram started. That's the best core car. I may replace the front clip and modify the pan a bit. Then I sell off the blue car and whatever is left - doors, hoods etc.

Im planning on having the second car - blue one thats still in Oregon, shipped down to me in the next 2 weeks, with the nice front clip. Ill also have a manual sunroof slider from a Mercedes wagon roof clip as well that may make it onto my 64 notchback :twisted:

Since just selling off the 74 Westy and making room in the last month, all I've had time to play with is smalls - hence the headlights and what not. I've been concentrating on re-educating myself on the T34 and the available market for things to restore them. Since Pedro is now our poster child for T34's coming out of the Type 3 San Diego Factory, he as well as Lee and Jack have been great to lean on when in need. I did do a chrome run with the guys but haven't picked the goodies up from Pedro yet.

This is whats going on the inside with an Anthracite exterior paint.

So, what percentage of your parts did you get back?
I'm sure that the good stuff was sold off to feed his habit.

Looks like the rest was left in the rain? For 13 years?
Amazing any is still even there!

Did you have to get a civil standby to access the property?
That's usually a good idea, because they'll hide when the see cops.

Hopefully getting the last of your stuff back won't involve guns.

Im hoping that Ian at SoCal VW Restoration will be swinging by there next week while Im back up in Puyallup working. Then come home round the 13th and meet up with him here in Ramona.

Then yes, my stuff will be out of the clutches of the tweeker. Surprisingly he has kept his hair and teeth so far.

Oh and hey! I just drove the bus yesterday to Home Depot for some Honey Do, then over to Lee's house to give him some shims to take out the hood springs in a T34. :roll: :lol:
