My reverse lights issue is solved. The sleeve on the large stop cap had detached. This left the shift rod with lots of play and would activate reverse switch when I shifted through my gears. Replaced part (new part from Van Cafe shown below). Shift rod now nice and snug, reverse lights work and shifting much smoother.
Thanks for the help.
Scott - 84 Manual
Hello all and Happy New Year,
My reverse lights come on intermittently while shifting through my gears. I think I have the problem narrowed down to the shift selector rod. The sleeve that sits inside the cup has broken loose. See picture. The moving sleeve should be attached to the large cup. This leads to the shift selector to have lots o play when install resulting in reverse lights coming on and off as a shift through gears. Because of the lobed sleeve at the end of the selector I can't get the inner sleeve off. Before I start applying some muscle to that lobed sleeve does anyone know if it is removable? Or should I be looking at different solution to remove the broken inner sleeve.
Thanks,
Scott

Pics of part from my old '85 WBX transaxle. I can't recall if the smaller "cup" shown sat in the housing and acted as a bushing. The large cup seemed to be spot welded in place. Maybe a good weldor could repair part while its in place? Otherwise I'd think you'd need to take things apart at the union. Not sure if that "U" shaped bit is pressed on.
Some images of where part broke may help others help you.
I can't find the small cup in online images but this appears to be the part you show
