What do you do to keep water/sand out of your dipstick?

Basically how do you seal up that area?

Thanks!

But in all of my years (decades :? ) of offroading VWs, it's NEVER been an issue for me. But it's inexpensive and I see no reason not to.

My bad, but you get the idea, lots of people make dipsticks with some type of seal.

Exactly, I was wondering what kind of seal is made to be used with the stock dipstick since the Bugpack sand seal dipstick is NLA.

Make your own if you want it.

I'm not in the habit of driving where I need a snorkle above the roof of the roll cage. But I've driven through streams up to the generator/alternator with no trouble with water getting past the dipstick. Nor have I had trouble with dust or sand.

You might have to trim off the flange at the bottom of the dipstick cap to put a piece of hose over it that will fit close to the dipstick tube.

goes right over whatever dipstick you like to use. whether its a billet one, long one, or stock length one, this works great.

That is a part for a type 3 oil filler tube. Way to large of diameter to fit dip stick tube.
When I was off road racing I used a spring to hold dip stick in place. Made a bracket that attached to 6mm bolt hole on side of case to attach other end of spring. Felt seal in stock dip stick has always worked for me.

Fixed my original post. I linked the wrong thing.

How would that seal work for a Type 1 dipstick that has a hat on it?

I think I would be more worried about what the fan would do trying to pump water!
