Less than 20 spots remaining.

I hope I-70 at Glenwood Canyon is back open by then for those coming from the east.

I hope so too. That was a nasty slide.

Any suggestions coming from Denver if I-70 is still closed?

I’ve heard to use the marked detour. Some alternate routes are not designed for so much traffic.

I think that the detour takes you north and on 40. That is the wrong direction for getting to Moab.

Right now Google is saying from northern Colorado to take 14 over Cameron pass through Steamboat and then down. Any way you look at it there’s no short route.

I like the southern route through Montrose. Same time from the Denver airport, and much nicer scenery.

We'll see what it looks like on Weds Sept 1. I pick my mom up at the airport at noon.

A few quick Solstice updates:

Remaining Spots

- there are about 10 spots remaining for the event this year. The venue capacity has shrank over the years while the price has skyrocketed. And it is a fistfight to get spots anywhere around Moab these days so we were lucky to get in. Anyway, I expect those spots will be filled in the next few days.

The Name

- I saw a few questions about the "Synquinox" name. Over the years the Solstice team has talked about different venues. The Moab site is really great, but there are so many other adventures out there, and with that, the idea of a fall event was born. Since the dates would be around the equinox - the Synquinox name was introduced. This year, because we postponed the May Solstice, it seemed like an opportune time to finally and safely roll out the 10th annual Syncro Solstice and introduce the Synquinox event at the same time:

Syncro Solstice 2021: Synquinox
10th years of the Syncro Solstice

Next year (as Covid allows) I expect we will have two events: The Syncro Solstice (in May) and the Synquinox (in September).

Artwork

- Although the registration form does not currently include shirts, we are scrambling to finalize the artwork so we can make them available. We take a lot of pride in the event artwork and it is always the biggest task. We'll post the artwork when we ge the next iteration back.

Other Details

- The event is 5 days and four nights this year, Thursday through Monday - that is a lot of time on trails, hiking, floating, biking, etc. And the weather will be warmer than usual this time of year. Keep that in mind when packing water, sunscreen, camp goodies, food and drinks, etc.

There was no Syncro Solstice in 2020 due to covid, so we are excited to get the band back together, and look forward to seeing you soon![/list]

Anyone arriving early? We'll be arriving in Moab Wednesday evening from Denver. Looking to hook up with folks if any are about.

Hi Dave and all other Synquinoxers:

It appears that the US border is still not open to us land-crossing Canadians, even those like Mrs. Howesight and I who are double-dose vaccinated. We opened our border to the US on August 9 and I have been jealous of all those many Americans whose license plates I have seen here in the Greater Vancouver area and their freedom to roam.

We made alternate plans for the Labour Day long weekend (wildfire-dependent) some time ago expecting the border would not likely be opened. I also had a secret plan of persuading Mrs. Howesight, if the border did open in time, of the vastly superior experience we would likely have at the Syncro Solstice with a back-up plan of self-debasing groveling if the persuasion route failed.

The continued border-crossing closure has meant that I can save those arguments for next year's Solstice, if needed, and my knees will thank everyone for being spared all the groveling which, I can assure all of you, would have been epic groveling.

I sincerely hope all of you have a safe, enjoyable experience at this great event! Please post pics!

So sorry you and the missus will not be able to make it. You both will be missed. :(

I'm out, too many factors working against me on this one. Hopefully that opens up a spot for somebody, and even more hopefully we'll get back to doing this in May next year.

Dave O,
I plan on arriving on Wednesday, too, coming from Bryce Canyon. I don’t have a site but was planning on boondocking somewhere around the periphery Wednesday night. Any suggestions are welcome and would like to meet up too if that works out.
