I've been to Autozone, O'reilly's, and Advance Auto. They say they cannot order
Stock number 4210 NGK spark plugs which are the B5hs which are what a stock aircooled VW should use. Heck, they can't even order the stock # 7534 which is one heat cooler (B6hs). Ebay has either one, but they're rather pricey by the time they're shipped. NAPA will likely tell me the same story when they open tomorrow, Car Quest too! Who do you guys get your non-resistor plugs from?
Thanks in advance! |

Looks like they might be discontinued, but NGK says the replacement is 3722 BR5HS.

What do you suppose the "R" stands for? I don't know, but it might be a resistor plug..........anybody know?
In an NGK plug the R indicates resistor. I really dont want a resistor plug in my 1600. |

Yep, tomorrow I'm gonna tell them what kind of boo boo they've made. With confidence waning on the Bosch plugs, we really don't need these to be discontinued. |

Ask for combined shipping. 4 spark plugs will fit in a USPS Small flat rate box which is under $8. |

I did calculate their charges. The first plug shipped for like $3.50, each after that was an additional $1.50! RATS! I'd like to get about 50 plugs for $100 so some of us would have a "stash" for a while. Lots of guys will run Champion, Autolite, anything in a VW, but most Samba guys wouldn't tolerate that. |

I’ve been told these don’t like anything but Bosch Plugs at that is what come in them too. :) . That’s the ones I would run. NGK makes a great plug for normal cars but I would not put it in one of these. Some cars don’t like certain plugs and I can imagine these would not like the NGK. But if you decide to go with them make sure they are copper core and use anti seize. :) |

I appreciate your opinion but can't say I agree completely with it. I started running Bosch plugs in my VWs in 1970 and had no problems until maybe 8-10 years ago. Switched to NGK then and they perform better, longer for me. But having said that, anybody using NGK now has no reason at all to use anti-seize as the plating on the threads is sacrificial and releases the plug from the heads without fail over and over. They explain this on their website in detail and I've found it to be absolutely true. Their normal, cheap, non-resistor, non-platinum, non- iridium plugs are the best for Ferdinands' air cooled people's car IMHO |

I have used NGK spark plugs since I got my car 21 years ago and have had zero issues. |

It’s what the beetle mechanic here in town that I talk too told me. :) . I’m glad you have found something that works for you and I’m glad they don’t get stuck in the head. Even if they don’t recommend anti seize I always use just a dab as it’s what I was taught to do in mechanics school. I’ve never been able to source my parts locally so I’m not surprised none of the parts stores have them. On all the beetle websites they have Bosch only. I’m curious what issues did you have? Not saying anything bad I’m just wondering so I can look out for them too. The previous owner threw in 4 new Bosch plugs so that is what I am planning on using. :) |

That’s good to hear. I guess the person who told me the cars don’t like anything but Bosch was exaggerating lol. |
