The van came with 2 swing aways: one for spare tire, one for luggage carrier. I don't like the way the "sleek lines" of the Vanagon are disrupted by these. So I adapted it (with the help of a welder friend)to add a bike rack and make most everything detachable when not needed. Very happy with how it came out. I could even pop that remaining bit of rack with the spare carrier off as well (spare is fitting fine up front).

| Looks like an interesting approach, especially since most aftermarket swingaways utilize the receiver and yours is still free for other inserts if they don't interfere with the bike. |
