View original topic: Bay Window-to-Vanagon rear bench replacement?

Hello, I am looking for information regarding my vanagon. I am wanting to take out the full rear bench from my 86 Vanagon, and replace it with the 3/4 bed you would find in a Westfalia to create more space for storage. I am currently in talks of purchasing a Westfalia 3/4 bench from a T2 bay window Westfalia. Would this bench and hardware be compatible with the 86 Vanagon, or will I have to do some riding and hacking in order to make it work?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Nate

The bus seat is not drop in exchange for the vanagon. Well
I’m 90% sure.

the rear deck of a Bay window bus is taller than a vanagon by about 3-4inches
you will need to space up the mounting points that rest on the rear deck.
also when the seat is turned into a bed it will be at that higher height laying flat.
this will require a whole new platform to create a level bed. you can make a shallow box to hold additional tools/supplies.
and it will put your head closer to the roof when sitting in bed. but I don't think you have the rear overhead (headbanger) cabinet to worry about.

it will fit in the vanagon, but will require some work.
