Texted Stan -- I'm on board for Friday night and Saturday night camping.

Been working like a dog at a new job, havent had much Bus time this summer. :(

Looking forward to a weekend of Bus camping!

Thanks Stan,
HoboBus.

Update, as of Friday August 27, 2021 the Larz Anderson auto museum will require all visitors to wear masks indoors, including bathroom use. The museum is where the Transporterfest/VW day takes place. This is mandated by the town of Brookline, MA.

Drumming up lots of interest. Might be some extra tight parking this year.

Getting pretty excited. This is my 18th straight year getting to Salem in October, it NEVER. GETS. OLD. Stan says were in for a great turn out this year and I cant wait to see everyone. Ill be coming up with my minty-fresh 64 Bug and my friends Jess and Brooke will be with me likely driving my recently acquired 84 Westy (their own Beetle is giving issues)
Were coming up Thursday - looking like a 10am ferry into New London. Friday might become a day to take the train or the commuter ferry into Boston for some exploring and Saturday will be left for adventures around the Witch City.
As with years past, I anticipate well get our usual group rally going down to the show. We usually roll out at 8 am sharp so if youre planning on joining expect it to be an early morning. Even though the typical road race is not taking place well follow our usual route which still helps us avoid traffic lights and city blocks which will ultimately help us keep the group as together as possible.
If you have a FRS radio (the little family radios) bring it. They help for the ride!

This is the usual route, Ill have some paper copies with me for the morning trip.

← Exit Winter Island Marine Park and Campground turn left onto Fort Avenue.
↗ In mile, Fort Avenue curves to the right, follow Fort Avenue and cross over Essex Street.
↖ Fort Avenue becomes Webb Street. Keep to the left lane of Webb Street.
← In mile, turn left at the end of Webb Street onto Bridge Street.
← After mile all of Bridge Street will turn left.
Note: This is a quick light the caravan will stop to gather again ahead.
↑ Keep to the center lane on Bridge Street, the right lane is an exit lane and the left is a turn lane only.
→ In 1 mile turn right onto Boston Street.
↑ After mile Boston Street will become Main Street.
↑ Continue on Main Street.
↑ After mile Main Street will become Lowell Street
↑ Follow Lowell Street for 1 miles
↖ Bear left onto Forest Street
← At the end of Forest Street, turn left on to Summit Street.
→ Take the first right onto Centennial Drive
↗ Bear right to the entrance for MA-128 towards Boston/Gloucester
↑ Remain on MA-128, which will merge with I-95 for 29 miles.
↗ Take exit 20A to MA-9 East This Is Boylston Street (Sign Marked Brookline/Boston)
↑ Remain on Boylston Street for 5 miles.
→ Turn right onto Lee Street, in 1 mile Lee Street will become Clyde Street.
↑ Continue on Clyde Street for 0.5 mile to Newton Street.
← Turn left onto Newton Street
↗ The road will split, bear to the right.
The entrance to Larz Anderson Auto Museum is on the left.

Can't wait, second show in two years. Way overdue!

Stanagon Mon Oct 04, 2021 12:40 pm

Salem campers, look for this sign at our Igloo group area. Mention that you are with the VW bus group when you stop at front gate. I will have vehicle passes for your bus, bug or whatever. Please dont register at the camp office, but visit there if you like. They have historical photos of Winter Island park in the office that are worth seeing.
